Word of the Year: Cultivate
At the start of each year, I choose a word to guide me in the year ahead. “Cultivate” is my chosen word for 2024, as I build upon all of the “seeds” I planted in 2023. It embodies a dedication to growth, nurturing, and the fostering of positive change, and evokes images of a gardener tenderly caring for the tiniest of blossoms and sprouts.
In support of a year of “Cultivate,” I also settled on my 5 most desired “ways of being:” Compassionate, Connected, Courageous, Centered, and Creative.
1. Compassionate: Cultivate compassion by working to understand and empathize with the experiences and feelings of others. Leading with love and a genuine desire to “see and support” the people around me.
2. Connected: Cultivate connection by building and maintaining strong relationships with myself and the people around me. Cultivate connections in my communities. Showing up present, open, and curious. Following up by being trustworthy, dependable, and thoughtful.
3. Courageous: Cultivate courage by putting myself “out there” and being “wholeheartedly me,” even when it feels uncomfortable. Engage in hard, heartfelt conversations. Take more risks and stretch myself with confidence and charisma.
4. Centered: Cultivate centeredness by maintaining a sense of balance and calm, even in the midst of stressful situations. Focus on my wellbeing and prioritize self-care. Practice deep breathing, mindfulness, gratitude, prayer, and journaling as tools to return to my calm, centered self.
5. Creative: Cultivate creativity by embracing a learner’s mind: open, expansive, abundant, and infinite. Experiment with new perspectives. Let the juices flow as I continue to expand my business, build connections and communities, and elevate my visibility. Surround myself with natural beauty and color.
