Remembering Martin Luther King Jr

Remembering Martin Luther King Jr today, his life, accomplishments, his dream for our nation…

This is the quote which grabbed my attention nearly a year ago, and demanded I reflect on my own biases and stop sitting in silence about racial injustices and inequality.

I have since prayed and spent a lot of time reading, reflecting, listening and educating myself. I am constantly learning and challenging my own limiting beliefs to learn how to love more like Christ. I know I’m being called to do much more, especially to encourage other White people to do their own work.

As we honor Martin Luther King today, I want to share what I know to be true for myself: Loving my Black and Brown friends and neighbors, believing in racial equality, and condemning acts of racial injustice doesn’t make me a socialist, communist, Marxist, or affiliated with any particular political ideology for that matter. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate or respect law enforcement, or support rioting and violence. What I hope it does reflect in me is how much I cherish the sanctity of human life and my desire to love more like Christ.

John 13:34 ESV: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
