“Me & White Supremacy” by Layla F. Saad

A couple days ago, I posted the link to the book I’m reading, “Me & White Supremacy,” by Layla F. Saad , on my personal Facebook page. I posted it on the day that I heard the news of George Floyd’s murder and of the white woman falsely accusing Christian Cooper- a black man who asked her to leash her dog- of attacking her in NYC’s Central Park.
I posted it knowing that many of my white friends would be deeply disturbed by this news, just as I am. On countless occasions as I’ve watched the news of racial hate crimes against black people, I’ve thought to myself, “I don’t know how to help. I don’t know what to do.” So I’ve sat passively in silence.. which makes me complicit too.
But I want to show up differently, and that starts with a deep, brutally honest examination of my own beliefs, attitudes, and prejudices.
It starts with posts like these to simply point other white people to this important resource- a 28 day workbook to walk you through this self-examination. I’m just starting this antiracism practice- I’m going to make mistakes in what I say and do, but I am committed to the practice and no longer wish to sit in a silent complicity.
Here’s Link to the “Me & White Supremacy” book, available for purchase on Amazon or your favorite book seller.
*I also recommend Saad’s  “Good Ancestor” podcast as she will introduce you to numerous authors and activists to further your learning
